England versus Ukraine is an intriguing cup tie. Everyone and their mother thinks they know who will advance, but if this year’s tournament has taught us anything, it’s that we don’t know anything. Anything can happen on the pitch, and no result is ever certain on the national stage.

Two losses and still through. Such is life in the small pool that makes up the Euros. Despite being a losing side with a negative goal differential, Ukraine controlled time of possession and fought their way past a stronger Sweden side in the round of 16. They will need to rely on Andriy Yarmolenko’s international experience to get them past the opening moment jitters, as surrendering early could prove a death blow against a team with Jordan Pickford as their keeper. Strong play from Roman Yaremchuk could be an X-factor for Ukraine, as the young striker has come into his own during the tournament (in North American sports terms, he just made himself a bag). Still, Ukraine has an uphill battle against a superior side and will need some luck to mix with their inspired play.
England’s path to the quarterfinals was fraught with peril as they had to face none other than the German national team in the round of 16. After two late goals and a clean sheet from Pickford, England is two wins away from the finals. If they advance, they will draw the winner of the Czech Republic vs. Denmark game and will avoid Spain or Italy until the finals. Their scoring drought in the group stage notwithstanding (every other team with two or fewer goals did not advance), England is now among the favorites to win it all. Strong play from Pickford helped them progress despite the scoring woes, and they will need another strong outing from their keeper to avoid the type of letdown we have seen all too often in the round of 16 and quarterfinals.
England come into this one as overwhelming favorites but with some question marks regarding their goal-scoring prowess. They have top attackers in Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane and are expected to cakewalk through this tie. However, as mentioned above, upsets have become a theme in this tournament, and anything can happen when two national teams meet. It is not always as cut and dry as picking the team with superior talent. With that said, the oddsmakers have England at a truly prohibitive -990. Income bettors may not shy away due to bankroll size and the fact that 10 percent is a good return on investment in any other arena. However, with a degree of uncertainty still remaining, we need to look elsewhere for value. Of full match options, we have -955 for an England draw, no bet wager, and -245 for a regulation win, odds that are very revealing in and of itself. The best value at DraftKings for this contest is England method to advance. If we tap the regulation win, it is -245. Method to advance is -240 despite being the exact same thing as far as winning and losing conditions. Eat the juice and take England to win.
Pick: England Method to Advance (-240)
