Top NBA Betting Picks for Thursday, May 6

We’ve got an interesting set of games tonight, including a battle for L.A. that the Lakers will have to play without LeBron James. The oddsmakers have listed the Clippers as heavy favorites for the matchups, but our experts are taking them to cover anyway.

Here are the top NBA betting plays for Thursday, May 6, provided by BettingPros experts Raju Byfield and Isaiah Sirois (Main game odds courtesy BettingPros Consensus; lock and prop odds sites may vary):

Betting Lock of the Day

Sirois: Grizzlies -9 (-114 at FD Sportsbook)
The best argument for this bet is the current state of Detroit’s roster. They won’t have Josh Jackson, Hamidou Diallo, Cory Joseph, Mason Plumlee, or Jerami Grant tonight, and they’ll remain without Dennis Smith Jr. If we look at the workload distribution from Tuesday’s contest, Detroit has a 40-minute gap to fill without Diallo, and I am skeptical that they have enough quality players to adequately fill that void. Let’s use FiveThirtyEight’s RAPTOR player ratings to illustrate how bad things have gotten: Six of their top eight players in WAR will miss tonight’s action, and another, Wayne Ellington, is questionable. Memphis should easily dispatch a tanking Detroit squad and cover this spread.

Top Game Prop of the Day

Sirois: Wizards and Raptors First Half Over 120 (-106 at FD Sportsbook)
I expect a high-scoring battle between the Wizards and Raptors tonight, and the action should get started early. Washington averages the third-most points per first half (59.3), and Toronto is close behind in 11th (57.7). More importantly, the Wizards give up the most points per first half (61.1), and the Raptors give up the eighth-most (58.1). Washington may get out to an even slower start than usual defensively after their high-scoring battle against the Bucks last night — the full-game over has cashed in 68.8% of their games played without rest. With Toronto averaging 62.7 points per first half over their last three outings, they should score more than enough to ensure this line cashes.

Top Player Prop of the Day

Sirois: Kyle Lowry Over 18.5 Points (-110 at FD Sportsbook)
The Wizards have struggled defensively all year, but they’ve been especially vulnerable to opposing point guards. They surrender the second-most points per game to the position (26.2), behind only the Sacramento Kings, which puts Lowry in a great spot for this one. The veteran scored 21 points the last time he faced Washington, and he has gone over this total in his last three games. With Toronto now done with a brutal stretch of games that saw them play the Nets, Nuggets, Jazz, Lakers, and Clippers in consecutive outings, look for Lowry to flash tonight.
