The Open Championship returns to Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, England, this week to play at the oldest venue of the Championship’s rotation. The last time we saw the Tour here for a major was in 2011, a victory by Darren Clarke (now on the Champions Tour) and a runner-up by Dustin Johnson.
While European golf fans have waited two years for their annual major to return home, the wait is finally over as the first tee box is now just hours away.
Let’s take a closer look at where the value remains.

Tony Finau (+210 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
There’s only one player in this week’s field with consecutive top 1os at The Open Championship, and his name is Tony Finau. In fact, in all four of his appearances in this tournament, Finau has finished T10 or better.
As far as metrics for on links-style courses, Finau ranks in the top 10 in both strokes gained: total and strokes gained: average per round. While he won’t be getting a ton of looks this week given his recent form (two straight missed cuts), Finao has proved time and time again to be a player who can switch it on at a moment’s notice.
Paul Casey (+155 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
Casey comes into the Open this week playing some of his best golf in years, with six top 10s on the season, including a 4th and 7th at the PGA Championship and US Open, respectively. In his two appearances here at Royal St. Georges, Casey made the cut both times and ranks near the top of rounds played here in the field this week.
He also comes into this one T13 in ball striking, and 2nd in the world at strokes gained: approach, both near career records for him at this point in the season.
To me, most notably, Casey has played three events this season on the European Tour, finishing T12 or higher in all three, including a win in Dubai and a 6th at the Porsche European Open in Hamburg.
As one of the highest-ranked Englishmen in the field this week, there would be no better place for Casey to secure his first major, and I like for him to set himself up to do just that come the weekend.
